We’re here to answer some of your most pressing questions about the upcoming game, and “Does Minecraft Dungeons Have a Story Mode” is definitely among the best of them!
Minecraft Dungeons is set to release on May 26, 2020 and will be available on Xbox One, PS4, PC and Nintendo Switch.
Inspired by the original Minecraft game, Minecraft Dungeons is a new twist that promises to be incredibly entertaining.
But with all the freedom given to Minecraft players, can we expect there to be a story mode in the next game? And if so, what could it be?
Let’s take a closer look and find out.
Does Minecraft Dungeons have a story mode?
The answer you’ll be glad to know is “yes!” Here’s what we know about the plot.
First, you control the hero in the story and with every hero there has to be a villain.
The main villain of Minecraft Dungeons is the Arch-Illager. This person seems to be quite complex, as their story is made up of tragedy and pain.
WE PROBABLY SHOULDN’T HAVE TOLD HIM THIS: Unite with your comrades to stop Arch-Illager’s misdeeds
He was bullied and generally hated by the people of his village. We don’t yet know why, but we assume it was completely unwarranted (like all bullying).
One day, he finds a powerful artifact that gives him unfathomable power – the power to exact revenge on those who tormented him.
His revenge was to force all villages to obey his orders as he began a campaign of terror, ransacking other villages across the land.

You will, alone or as a team, set out to stop this destruction and put an end to its evil campaign.
A light touch
The story of any other game would seem incredibly dark. However, this is Minecraft. There’s a certain playfulness to the game that adds to its varied appeal to audiences.
Mojang says the story will be light-hearted, with more emphasis on combat and character progression.
“You have a chain of goals that you want to accomplish, [but] it’s not like we have a massive narrative that you go through,” Mojang’s David Nisshagen told IGN.
LET’S DO THIS! Story takes precedence over action and character progression
Gameplay
The gameplay reveal trailer gave people a taste of what to expect from the story mode, and the focus on combat and character progression was definitely the main event.
We actually don’t see the main villain, just hordes of enemies (we’re not complaining though!)
Some of the best moments came from the player wielding a Thor-like hammer, slamming lightning into waves of enemies.

On the one hand, cooperative multiplayer will be present in the game, giving players the chance to play with friends and complete the challenges thrown at them.
We even got a glimpse of team inventory management, perfect for building the ultimate dungeon force!
If you missed it, check out some of what we thought were the best moments from the trailer here.
