How to tame a horse in Minecraft

ROAMING the Minecraft landscape is much easier on four legs than two, so taming a horse should be high on your list if you plan on exploring.

Minecraft horses are quite easy to tame. Finding them is the challenge.

Where to find horses in Minecraft

Minecraft horses generally like to hang out in groups of two to six.

You will find them in the plains and savannas biomes.

Horses are not aggressive, so you don’t have to worry about being attacked when approaching them.

Before heading out into the wilderness to start picking up mounts, you need to take a saddle with you.

If you want to ride your tamed horse, bring it back to your base, or do something useful with it, you need to craft a saddle.

The bad news is that you can’t craft a saddle, which is kind of annoying.

Instead, you need to go out into the world and find one, but on the plus side, they’re not particularly rare.

Places to find a saddle include chests in dungeons or a Nether fortress.

You can also come across one while fishing!

So now that you know where to look for horses and have a full inventory of saddles, you’re good to go.

You don’t need to attract horses by feeding them, as you would with other tamable creatures.

Simply approach the future mount and press the prompt to board and ride on it.

If you’re lucky, it’ll get the job done and it’ll be tamed.

It’s more likely that you’ll get trapped multiple times, so persevere and come back.

Repeat until the horse is tamed, in which case you will need the saddle.

Access your inventory from the back of your new horse and equip it to the horse.

You can now control your mount.
