Minecraft: Bedrock Edition beta adds glowing squids from ‘Caves and Cliffs update’

Source: Mojang Studios | Twitter

Minecraft is launching a new beta for the Bedrock Edition today, which adds some additional “experimental features” from the Caves and Cliffs update. That’s right, players enrolled in the beta program can install Minecraft Beta right now and test the latest mob to join Minecraft: the glowing squid.

In case you’ve forgotten, the glowing squid is the mob that won the fateful Mob Vote during last year’s Minecraft Live event, and will therefore be added to the game via the upcoming Caves and Cliffs update. . In addition to its main purpose of being terrifyingly bright, the Luminous Squid drops bags of Glowing Ink when killed, which can be used to craft new frames of illuminated items to brag about at night.

While perhaps not as exciting as the recent Minecraft: Java Edition snapshot, big things are set to come to Minecraft: Bedrock Edition in the near future.

The complete changelog for Minecraft: Bedrock Edition Beta includes:

Experimental features

shiny squid

  • Luminous Squids do not yet spawn naturally in the world, but can be spawned using a spawn egg
  • Once killed, the Glow Squid will drop bags of Glow Ink

Bright object frame

  • Craft a glowing item frame by combining a glowing ink bag with an item frame in a crafting table. Any object in a light frame is perfectly illuminated, even at night!

  • Players can now use dye to color sign text
  • Use a glowing ink bag on the panels to make the text glow!
  • Use a regular ink bag to remove the glow effect

laser trace

  • As of version 1.16.200, ray tracing is now available on Windows 10 devices with compatible hardware. If you were enrolled in the RTX beta, you are now enrolled in the standard Minecraft beta and will continue to receive the latest beta, including ray tracing features.
