Mending is one of the higher tier enchantments in Minecraft that was added in the 1.9 updates, along with other new combat features. With this new combat system, players have the ability to kill mobs faster. Therefore, repair has entered the game!
What does repair do in Minecraft?
Mending is a powerful enchantment in Minecraft that gives you the ability to repair tools, weapons, and armor using experience points. The faster you earn experience points, the faster you can repair your items!
When Mending was added to the game, everyone was so happy! If you’re a Minecraft veteran, you know that crafting and enchanting your best tool is already a challenge, but maintaining durability and repairing items is another story.
With mending, everything is so simple! You don’t need any other tools or armor of the same type to repair the item. Or you don’t need to spend an insane amount of leveling on the anvil too!
How to get a repair in Minecraft?
Mending can be obtained by looting treasure chests spawned in Dungeons, Desert Temples, Mine Shafts, Ancient Cities, Raider Outposts, Underwater Ruins, and Wooded Mansions.
Fishing also has a 0.8% to 1.9% chance to give you a random enchanted book, which greatly reduces the rate of getting a repair book this way.
So far, the best way to repair yourself in Minecraft is to trade with Librarian villagers. They have a great chance of selling a repair book for around 20 emeralds. And if you cured them from zombification, the price can be lower, up to 1 emerald.
How does mending actually work?
Whenever an item contains a repair enchantment and is placed in your main hand, off hand, or one of the 4 armor slots, the item will be repaired as you gain experience. Each experience repairs 2 durability.
Repair works on armor, weapons, and tools. No matter what material you use to craft the items, the repair will work the same! In particular, here is the list of elements:
- Armor: helmet, breastplate, greaves, boots, elytra, turtle shell and shield.
- Weapon: sword, axe, bow, crossbow and trident.
- Tools: pickaxe, shovel, axe, hoe, fishing rod, shears, flint and steel, carrot on a stick and warped mushroom on a stick.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is repair worth it in Minecraft?
Unless you only use your item once or don’t care if it gets destroyed forever, the repair is definitely worth it!
Does mending last forever in Minecraft?
Yes, the repair lasts forever on your items. Unless you die and your item vanishes, you will of course lose your repair enchantment!
Do items with repair break?
Yes, items with repair can break normally if you use the tool to perform actions that don’t award any experience points. For example, using a repair pickaxe to only mine stone will eventually break it. Using this pickaxe to mine coal and other ores will repair it over time.
